“I highly recommend Dan for those who are still having trouble crafting a compelling story. He was able to take a part of my story that many would not find so interesting and make it captivating for the reader. Dan spends a good amount of time getting to know the person he is working with so that he can tell your story in the best light possible. I loved how he logically sequenced the structure of my essay to address questions the reader may have as they go through it. He was also able to take a part of my story that many would not find so interesting and make it engrossing. I would pick him again in a heartbeat!”

“I was a week before the deadline and I was in dire need of help. I'm an atypical applicant - a career changer and older than the applicant pool. I reached out to Dan, and he was already at capacity. He moved mountains to work with me to meet the deadline, and for that, I am so grateful. He really cares. Dan and I spent hours crafting compelling narratives that will raise my chances for an interview. His ability to get to know you and flush out the core of your passions is amazing. I wholeheartedly recommend him. I feel much more confident about my chances with his help.”

“Dan helped me with rewriting my resume and introduction letter. I came to him with what I thought was a strong foundation. Over just a few short online/phone sessions, Dan helped me bring my profile into the 21 century.

He took my bland, checklist resume, and letter and really made them pop. He had a way of drawing an essence out of me; helping me paint a colorful and attractive picture of my personal skills and experience. By no means did Dan write for me, it was a true collaboration of guidance and support. He gave me the confidence to go deeper and use language on the fringe of my vocabulary. Now that I'm done working with Dan, my confidence is through the roof. Reflecting on what we wrote together draws my head up and shoulders back.”

“He gets to know students' souls and shows them, their talents, aspirations, hearts, readiness to excel, on paper in ways few others can. If you want your college admissions, job applications, and all other essays to show YOU in the truest, clearest, most helpfully descriptive ways, I cannot recommend anyone more highly than Dan Lichterman. He is that gentleman and scholar we all like to work with -- and have our kids spend time with. It's a refreshing experience from start to finish that prepares you to excel with next steps.”

“Dan has a talent for getting to the heart of not just the challenge, but of your own motivation. He helped me revamp my resume in two short online sessions, delivering a streamlined and highly readable product that helped me clarify my goals as well as create a professional resource. He is super efficient and condenses not just copy edit skill but also thoughtfulness into his approach, following and guiding at the same time. Thanks Dan! Highly recommend.”

Whitney Admission Essay

"My daughter was accepted to 11 of the 14 schools that she applied to. A number of them gave her merit scholarships, about a total of $200,000 (too bad she can't take all the scholarships and apply it to one school). Since her grades and test scores were not all that great, I am inclined to believe that the key to these admissions was the combination of her activities and her essay. Three of the schools complimented her on her essay!"

“Dan was a pleasure to work with. Rather than writing an essay for you, Dan prides himself on elevating his clients' writing skills. I left Dan a more cohesive writer, though most importantly, Dan provided me with a creative twist my thought process did not previously contain. Working with Dan resulted in more than I could have hoped for, and along the way, I gained not only stronger mechanics but also a mentor and friend. Dan is dedicated to his craft like no other, and I cannot stress the reward of working with him enough.”

“I had never worked with a writing coach before and it was so worth it. Dan is really easy to talk to, super organized and helpful, and just truly great at what he does. Every counselor, professor, and friend I have shown my essays to have said they're really strong, captivating, precise, and eloquently written.

With Dan's help I was accepted into UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCSC, UCSB, UCSD, UCI, UC Merced, SFSU, SJSU, Cal Poly, CSU Monterey Bay and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (that's 12 of the 14 schools I applied to). I was also offered 11 different scholarships, so working with Dan definitely pays off big time! I couldn't have done it without him! I wholeheartedly recommend working with Dan, and I will definitely be going back to see him when I write my grad school apps! He's the best.”

“We approached Dan for the common app essays when we didn’t know where and how to start. Apparently we had so many things going in our mind but had no clue what will make a compelling story. Dan gave my son a patient hearing on all his achievements. This part can possibly take a few sessions as it is important for Dan to understand the person. After he heard him, he was able to take one of his achievements and was able to suggest a unique story out of this. There were some weekly assignments to describe several aspects of the story but in the end when it came together it came off very nicely. We as parents and my son were extremely pleased to come up with an unique and nice story that also conveyed several traits of my sons character. I’d highly recommend Dan as some one who can be trusted with help on the college essays as some times this can be very daunting to complete these within the word limitations imposed and at the same time have a unique story for the person reviewing it. Great job Dan. Thank you”

“By far my writing ability was one of my worst scholastic proficiencies, and that says a lot considering the majority of graduate school is writing what we have discerned.  I have struggled with reading and writing since my childhood, but it wasn't until working with Dan that I learned some powerful yet intuitive writing hacks. Almost anyone can spellcheck, and add punctuation to your sentences, making sure grammatically it's properly organized yet how many people can help you to understand not just how to write, but how to become a better writer?  Help you to understand the depth of words and their
interconnected relationships and how the precise combination is the difference between a Personal Statement that gets you an acceptance letter with an enclosed full-ride scholarship, as opposed to the rejection letter that sends you back to the drawing board further delaying your dreams.”

“We are so glad we found Dan! I specifically looked on Yelp to find a much needed essay coach for my son who is starting college in the fall of 2019. My 17 year old son seemed to be struggling with his essays and was putting himself under a lot of stress. Once Dan starting working with him he was able to relax and get his thoughts down on paper with confidence. Dan's knowledge, expertise and patience were a blessing!”

“It has taken me days to figure out the right words to describe how WONDERFUL Dan was when he helped me with my transfer essays. I have been on a very untraditional college path and deciding the best way to present myself was very difficult for me. Dan showed my how to take the positives from the negatives. In helping me pull out the positives for my essays, we also discovered I had a lot more to talk about than just my surface level schooling and work. Dan is incredibly easy to talk to, which makes bouncing ideas off him a breeze.

If you are a non-traditonal student or someone looking to beef up their resume, I HIGHLY recommend working with Dan. He is definitely not second best.”

"When I applied to Teach For America only the top 10% of applicants were admitted. I had little to distinguish my application from others besides my passion for the cause. I couldn't have expressed that passion without Dan's help. He guided me through the writing process so that I could produce an attention-grabbing personal statement that got me in the door! Thanks Dan!"

“Daniel coached our son during his middle school and high school years. Daniel brings wonderful skills to the job, not only a great gift for writing, but also an exuberant and engaging way of relating to kids as they struggle through various assignments. Daniel had an immeasurable impact on our family, not only taking homework off our plates, but also giving our son the confidence and skills to write more successfully on his own. We are very grateful!”

"In the area of writing, our son had been a challenge for teachers and tutors. He did not want to even attempt any of his writing assignments. Daniel's work with Alex has significantly improved this difficult situation. Alex has learned to complete his work in a timely manner, to become more organizationally independent, and to expand his writing by infusing his sentences with explanatory details. Daniel brings unique gifts to his teaching and his enthusiasm and belief in each child's abilities is definitely contagious."
